Forensic tests on the skeletal remains that Mumbai police suspect to be that of Sheena Bora continued on Saturday and the forensic science laboratory (FSL) is likely to send a report on the DNA tests to investigators by Sunday.
Indrani Mukerjea, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyam Rai are in police custody for allegedly murdering Indrani’s daughter Sheena in 2012. Blood samples of Indrani, and also Siddharth Das, who claimed to be father of Sheena, had been sent by Khar police station to the FSL earlier.
The FSL will compare them with the DNA from the skeletal remains to find whether they match. The car, in which the police claim that Indrani, Khanna and Rai strangulated Sheena to death and then took her body to Pen where it was dumped, was also sent to the FSL on Saturday.

An official requesting anonymity said that while the DNA extraction from blood does not take much time, extraction of DNA from bone samples, that in this case are three years old, is time consuming. “We are working on the DNA tests…. In case the tests are not complete by Saturday, we will work on Sunday and finish it since the police have requested us to give the results at the earliest,” the official said.
Khar police sent the car, in which the crime is alleged to have taken place, to the FSL. An official said that apart from forensic experts, four mechanics had been called in and major portions of the car had been dismantled to check if any biological remains were found that could be tested for DNA. The officials did not find much in the vehicle. Based on a digital facial superimposition of the skull, police said it belonged to Sheena. The DNA match, however, will be conclusive proof. Sheena was allegedly murdered on April 24, 2012 and the next day, her body was burnt in a forest in Pen in Raigad.
Stop media trial, says Ribeiro
Former Mumbai police commissioner Julio Ribeiro on Thursday wrote a letter to the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court asking for the court to intervene in the manner in which the Sheena Bora murder case is being reported by the media. Ribeiro requested the court to stop the media trial, and especially by the electronic media from judging people involved in the case.
