Expressing disappointment over the Shankaracharyas’ decision to skip the Ayodhya Ram temple consecration ceremony, Union Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Narayan Rane has criticised the Shankaracharyas for viewing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP from a political angle on the Ayodhya issue.

“The Ram temple at Ayodhya is a matter of faith. It was done not with any political motive. It is not any party’s agenda. The Lord Ram is revered and worshipped by the Hindus across the country,” he told reporters in Mumbai on Saturday.

“Should the Shankaracharyas praise or criticise the construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya?” he said and went on to question Shankaracharya’s contribution to Hinduism.

“The Shankaracharya should tell people what their contribution is for Hindu dharma?” he criticised.

He said that the seers should come forward and bless PM Modi on the occasion for his efforts taken towards building the Ram temple.

Swami Avimukteshwarananda Saraswati, the Shankaracharya of Jyotish Peeth in Uttarakhand, on Friday stated that the seers would abstain from the January 22 ceremony as the temple construction was incomplete.

“Lord Ram is highly revered by one and all. It was the long cherished dream of lakhs and crores of people to see the Ram temple at Ayodhya. PM Modi has accomplished the temple construction. The idol of Ram Lalla will be installed in a function called pram pathisthan on January 22. At such a joyous moment when the entire Hindu community is celebrating the occasion, why should anybody criticise? The Shankaracharyas especially should praise the PM,” Rane said.
