A delegation of Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders led by Ambadas Danve, the leader of opposition in the Legislative Council, met Governor Ramesh Bais at Raj Bhavan on Monday and demanded a high-level inquiry into the death of 14 people due to sun stroke at the Maharashtra Bhushan Award ceremony in Kharghar last week. The delegation requested Bais to direct a high-level inquiry in the matter and ask authorities to file a case of culpable homicide. "In order to prevent such incidents in the future, the delegation gave a statement to the Governor demanding that a high-level inquiry must be conducted and the Governor must direct the government to register a case of culpable homicide. There is still confusion regarding the figures of casualties released by the government. The local police station has not reported any death related to this incident yet," read the statement released by Sena (UBT). The statement further alleged that Rs 14 crore was spent on the Maharashtra Bhushan programme but no proper arrangements were made. Danve said he has also demanded that action should be taken against local senior police personnel who were responsible for the event and were negligent in planning the function. The delegation also met the Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner on Monday. Apart from Danve, Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant, MLCs Anil Parab and Sachin Ahir, MLAs Sunil Prabhu and Ravindra Waikar were part of the delegation.
