School notes: Vissanji Academy completes 50 years

Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Lady Ratanbai and Sir Mathuradas Vissanji Academy,established in 1963,a Special Postal Cover was released on July 20,2013.

Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Lady Ratanbai and Sir Mathuradas Vissanji Academy,established in 1963,a Special Postal Cover was released on July 20,2013. The cover was released by Shri. Suresh Shetty,Minister of Public Health and Family Welfare and Environment and Protocol,Maharashtra with Shri Harish Agrawal,Postmaster General,Mail Management.

Dr Farida Virani,Head of Department and Professor,HR and Behavioural Science,at MET Institute of Management,Mumbai,was the guest speaker. The event was held at the auditorium of Vissanji Academy.

Ryanites shine at Thames Valley Summer School (UK)

Ryan International Group of institutions in association with the Thames Valley Summer School (TVSS),UK,created a platform for students to attend the prestigious TVSS English Summer School at Oundle and Sevenoaks. As part of the programme,they stayed at some of the most prestigious English boarding schools with students from more than 30 countries. For the past 39 years,TVSS courses have been among the most popular programmes in the UK. Under the able direction of Dr. A F Pinto,chairman & Madam Grace Pinto,MD,Ryan Group,Ryan has created opportunities for Ryanites at global forums. This was an international and eclectic experience for the students to live in the UK for two weeks.

Ryanites attended English classes and participated in excursion programmes. “Students from Russia,Spain,China and Italy were also part of this study. The integral theme was to break international boundaries,integrate cultures and become proficient in English. This was one of the many initiatives we undertake to make each Ryanite a global citizen,” said Alice Vaz,who accompanied the students along with Katherine James.

Students prepared for the most prestigious Trinity College English speaking examination. It was a proud moment as all the students passed out with flying colours. While sharing about this international experience,Ayush said,“I have never had so many good friends from so many different countries. I learnt so much from them about their culture,food and traditions. I am proud of my school for this excellent opportunity.”

Students also visited numerous historical destinations in London,Oxford,Canterbury,Brighton and Cambridge. Special guided tours were organised to the National Portrait Gallery,National Gallery,British Museum,Natural History Museum,Science Museum and Victoria and Albert Museum,Oxford College,National Maritime Museum and Sea Life Centre. Various academic forums and discussions were held with the students about English art,history,poets,authors and cinema. Nihal Nair said,“This was the most amazing learning experience I have ever had and I am grateful to my school for such a wonderful exposure.”

Ashadhi Ekadashi at Sou Laxmibai School,Mulund

Students from Stds 6th & 7th celebrated Ashadhi Ekadshi in the school. Many participated in various programmes such as plays based on saints of Maharashtra and skits.

Principal Prasasd Kulkarni & Pooja Kulkarni attended the celebration.

Sou Laxmibai schools excel in academics

Sou Laxmibai English Medium School school students did the the school proud again this year by achieving ranks at the Middle School and High School Scholarship exams.

Seventeen students achieved merit at the Middle School Level and 14 at the High School Level.

Principal Prasad Kulkarni said,“It is satisfying and exhilirating to see the students achieve success. They deserve the credit for the sincere and dedicated hard work.”

Investiture ceremony at Cambridge school,Kalyan

The Cambridge International School always takes initiatives to give children an opportunity to learn.

The Investiture Ceremony,synonymous with enthronement,not only gives children a lesson in being empowered but also teaches them how to use power judiciously.

A long-awaited ceremony by children of The Cambridge International School was held on July 12. The elected candidates stood on the stage with pride to receive their respective badges.

The ceremony started by lighting of the lamp by the Director of The Cambridge International School,Minal Pote and Head of the School. Grade 4 student Palak Das welcomed the guest of honor with saplings of tulsi.

The elections for the positions of House Captain,Hygiene Minister,Sports Minister,Discipline Minister,Cultural and Creative Minister were held in advance.

Here,children learnt the process that is followed to elect the country’s office bearers.

This initiative was taken by the school’s Sports Head,Amol Shinde. On the day of Investiture Ceremony,the elected House captain,Sports,Hygiene,Discipline,Cultural and Creative Ministers’ names were announced one by one.

Selected leaders of The Cambridge International School were bestowed with the respective badges and scarves by Mrs Pote. Head Boy and Head Girl of the school and at last the School President was appointed and their names were announced.

These badges would not only bring pride but also huge responsibility for our new office bearers.

The new team looked ready to take on all the challenges. But only we knew what was going on inside us,excitement,nervousness,and a plethora of emotions.

Followed by the Court of Honour,the Flag Ceremony took place.

Mrs Pote handed over the School Flag to the HOD of Sports Department who in turn,passed it to the respective House Mentors and with the help of the respective House Captains the House Mentors hoisted each House Flag.

Oath taking ceremony was the solemn part of the programme,which not only teaches the children the definition of commitment but also the responsibility that their young shoulders would have to take,out in the world when they go. The appointed School President,Akshata More,took the oath.

The entire ceremony ended with a French poem and our National Anthem,by Grade 2 students,subsequently moving to the formal Vote of Thanks and then dispersal after the school song and the National Anthem.
