SBI branch robbery: Cops arrest one

The Borivali police,investigating the robbery of Rs 1.8 lakh from a customer service point of State Bank of India in Borivali on Friday,were informed on Monday by the Navi Mumbai police that one of the accused allegedly involved in the crime had been arrested there.

Mahesh Patil,Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 11) said they were informed by the APMC police in Navi Mumbai that during a nakabandi,they had apprehended a Maruti Esteem used by the robbers.

“We had circulated the car number with other police stations,based on which the Navi Mumbai police arrested S Thevar who was driving the car,” said Patil.

Police said,on questioning,Thevar allegedly confessed that he was part of the gang that committed the robbery.

Four armed men had barged into the customer service point of State Bank of India in Borivali on Friday. They threatened the employees and fled with the cash kept in the counter.

During investigation police found out that the car used by the robbers was a stolen from Mahim. There was a complaint registered in Mahim on Wednesday in connection with the car theft.
