According to the chargesheet, after the recce on January 15, Fakir came to Bandra from Worli, went near Saif’s building in the evening and hid in the bushes, waiting for nightfall. (File Photo)Mohammed Shariful Islam Fakir, 30, the Bangladeshi national arrested for attacking actor Saif Ali Khan on January 16 at his residence in Mumbai during a failed robbery attempt, had conducted a recce of the building in Bandra the evening before allegedly committing the crime. This was revealed in the 1,612-page chargesheet recently filed by the Bandra police in court against the accused, who is currently in jail.
During the investigation, the police secured CCTV footage from Bharti Villa and Next Avenue, the buildings near Satguru Sharan where Saif resides. In this footage, Fakir is allegedly seen conducting a recce of the area between 3 pm and 6.45 pm on January 15. On January 16, the CCTV at the Bharti Villa building allegedly captured Fakir’s movement again at 3.37 am.
The police investigation has also revealed that while Fakir was working at a hotel in Bandra, he allegedly roamed around the area to find out where rich people stayed so that he could decide on a building he could target.
According to the chargesheet, after the recce on January 15, Fakir came to Bandra from Worli, went near Saif’s building in the evening and hid in the bushes, waiting for nightfall.
Late at night, he allegedly entered Saif’s building to steal and tried to open other doors but failed. Later, he allegedly spotted a net on the 11th floor, cut it open, and entered Saif’s house from the bathroom, the chargesheet says. When he opened the bathroom door, a toy fell and made a sound that alerted Saif’s son Jehangir’s nanny, the chargesheet says.
When confronted, Fakir allegedly said that he was there to steal and not to harm anyone. But as another nanny screamed, he got aggressive and attacked Saif and later a nanny during a scuffle, the chargesheet says.
As Saif’s wounds were deep, he was rushed to a hospital.
Fakir claimed he escaped using the same route he used to enter the house. He went to a garden in Bandra, changed his clothes, and spent the night there before leaving for Worli in the morning, the chargesheet says.
