A senior doctor of the civic-run Kasturba Hospital, who was sacked for medical negligence couple of months ago,was found dead at the staff quarters on Friday.
Umesh Prabhu (41),assistant medical officer at the hospital, was terminated in July this year for medical negligence and was asked to leave the staff quarters.
Prabhu worked with the hospital for over 12 years.
Senior Police Inspector Pravin Gosavi from the Agripada police station said,The body was discovered today but from the condition of the deceased,it seems that he had been dead since the past couple of days. Although no suicide note was found near the body, there was a piece of paper on which he had written his address and telephone number. Prima facie it looks like suicide.
He did not open the door for past two days. It was only this morning when sweeper noticed two days newspapers stacked outside that she alerted the guards and the hospital doctors. The doctors informed the nearby police station. The police broke open the door and found him dead on his bed, said a doctor staying in the same quarters. It is believed that he had alcohol and sleeping pills that led to his death, said the doctor.
His colleagues knew him as an introvert. He was an introvert and always stayed aloof. He never interacted with anyone of us, said a senior doctor at the hospital. After his termination,he hardly came out of his room. He ordered his tea and food from the hospital canteen in his room and hardly stepped out of the hospital, the doctor added.
Prabhu passed his MBBS from Goa,his native place, and later joined Kasturba Hospital.
