This is absolutely false.” (Representational Image)A Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) office-bearer on Friday lodged a complaint with the Election Commission and Nagpur police commissioner against an activist for allegedly calling a press conference under RSS banner, where he said “RSS is supporting Congress in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections”.
The activist was identified as Janardan Moon.
The police said the secretary of RSS’ Nagpur division lodged the complaint after a video of the conference started circulating on social media.
In the application, the RSS office-bearer said, “In the press conference, Janardan Moon misrepresented facts and mislead people by stating that RSS is supporting Congress in the Lok Sabha elections. This is absolutely false.”
The office-bearer further alleged that Moon tried to register an organisation under the name of RSS and it was rejected by the Assistant Registrar of Societies. “Moon had then appealed before the High Court and also the Supreme Court but his petitions were dismissed,” he said.
“We have not registered any case against Moon yet. A team is probing the matter and appropriate action will be taken if we find anything against him,” a police officer said.
When contacted, Moon said, “The office-bearer from RSS had approached the Charity Commissioner in 2020 to stop me from using the name; however the commissioner had then dismissed their plea and asked them to approach the HC. As we have not received any direction from the court, I am continuing to use it because if they had gone to HC and if the court had instructed me to not run an organisation under the name RSS, I would have followed the direction.”
