A meeting between Public Works Department (public undertakings) Minister Jaydutt Kshirsagar and Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh, where the former pushed for environmental clearance to road projects, failed to yield the desired result, admitted MSRDC officials who had accompanied him to the meeting.
Kshirsagar and the MSRDC delegation had met Ramesh on March 5 to push for environment clearance for several crucial infrastructure projects in the city.
Kshirsagar himself told Newsline,It was a peripheral meeting and therefore nothing was decided in it. We need another round of meetings for something conclusive.
Before the meeting,he had told Newsline he and his team would discuss central clearance for projects, especially the Peddar Road flyover, which had recently received the nod from the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority five years after permission had been sought.
The fate of many proposed MSRDC projects depend upon quick clearance from the environment ministry. Apart from the environmental clearance for Peddar Road flyover, the MSRDC would need clearance for connectors on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link and Worli-Haji Ali Sea Link.
Costal clearance is also required for the proposed 10.3-km Versova-Bandra Sea Link,as well as the proposed project from Haji Ali to Nariman Point via a combination of sea link, deep tunnel and a shallow tunnel,as there have been minor modifications in design.
