A magistrate court on Saturday rejected the bail application of Purushottam Chavan, the husband of an IPS officer arrested by the Mumbai Police in a real estate ‘fraud’ case. Chavan was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in an alleged money-laundering case.

Chavan had sought bail citing medical grounds. He had said that he is suffering from physical and mental health issues and needs proper care and treatment which is not possible at the hospital in jail.

“The documents though show some ailments of the accused, this court does not find them so serious as to release the accused on bail. Such medical conditions can be tackled by the government hospitals and from the jail itself. There can be directions to the jail authority to look after the special circumstances, if any, faced by the accused in custody,” additional chief judicial magistrate, A R Solapure said.

The police had opposed bail to him citing the other cases filed against Chavan. The police had also claimed that the current case involves cheating of people as they were promised low-cost government homes but instead were duped to the tune of Rs 7.42 crore after the accused forged documents.
