The woman also alleged that Jadhav had made her undergo two abortions and had a five-year-old son with her.
THE MUMBAI Police investigating allegations of murder against suspended police officer Bhanudas alias Anil Jadhav visited his Pune farmhouse on Sunday to look for skeletal remains of two persons alleged to be buried there. The mission turned out to be futile as the police could not zero-in on the exact spot at the five-acre plot at Parli village in Pune.
An Uzbek national had accused Jadhav of raping her and committing the murders. The Chembur police had registered a case of rape against Jadhav on October 11 after the woman approached the police saying that he had raped her over eight years. The woman also alleged that Jadhav had made her undergo two abortions and had a five-year-old son with her.
She further told the police that Jadhav had buried a woman who died of drug overdose in his farmhouse and covered it with concrete. Later, when the woman’s brother came looking for her, Jadhav allegedly shot him dead under the influence of alcohol and buried him at the same spot in 2016.
A senior officer said that on October 27, the police team had visited the farmhouse along with the woman and an executive magistrate. The entire search process was video recorded. When the police team asked the woman where the bodies had been buried, she said she did not know the exact spot. She added that while Jadhav had killed the man in front of her, he did not bury him in her presence.
Sources in the police said the woman led the police team to a concrete structure in the farmhouse. She, however, said she was not completely sure if it was the same spot where Jadhav had buried the deceased. She also identified the sofa where she said the man was seated when Jadhav shot him.
However, since she could not point out the exact spot where the body had been allegedly buried, the operation was called off. “Till the time we find some evidence like skeletal remains, how can we register a murder case?” an officer said.
The woman’s lawyer alleged that the police have a prejudiced mindset against the victim and are not probing the case properly.
“How would she point out the exact spot when Jadhav only told her about having buried them in concrete within the farmhouse so that animals do not end up eating their bodies? When they did find a concrete structure in the farmhouse, they should have checked there. They should have also had sniffer dogs check the area. They had also been told that the former caretaker of the house is aware of what happened. They just need to question him. However, none of these things were done,” said lawyer Nitin Satpute.
Soon after the FIR was registered, Jadhav had applied for anticipatory bail that was rejected by a local court. The police are yet to arrest Jadhav, who has in the past had been arrested for allegedly supplying drugs at a rave party and demanding bribe.
