A WEEK after MNS MLA Ram Kadam was released on bail in a case of assaulting a traffic policeman,a sessions court on Thursday rejected his anticipatory bail application in a three-month-old assault case registered with Pant Nagar police.

Kadam and MLA Kshitij Thakur were arrested on March 21 for allegedly beating up assistant police inspector Sachin Suryawanshi, attached to the traffic police department, inside Vidhan Bhawan. After spending four days behind bars, the duo were released on bail.

While the magistrate court was hearing the duo’s bail applications,Kadam’s lawyer Ashok Saraogi had moved an anticipatory bail plea claiming that Kadam was not involved in the Pant Nagar case and was wrongly implicated.

On January 18,BMC ward officer Mahesh Phad was allegedly assaulted by a group of women in his office in Pant Nagar after he sanctioned demolition of an illegal structure. The women also accused Phad of molestation. Kadam was booked in the case after Phad alleged that the MLA threatened him for ordering the demolition. Phad had claimed he was attacked at the behest of Kadam.

Pant Nagar police booked Kadam for allegedly inciting an assault on Phad.

The court, however, granted Kadam interim relief till April 6.

On Monday,Kadam, who has at least six cases registered against him in the city, had also applied for anticipatory bail in another (2011) case registered with Santacruz police for allegedly abusing officers who stopped a party thrown by his friend as loud music was being played past deadline.

The court granted him anticipatory bail in the case.
