Despite appealing for greater recognition of women in the field of science and technology, the inauguration of the Women’s Science Congress Sunday had an audience of hardly 40-45 people.
Some blamed it on bad signage and inadequate information at the help-desks about the venue’s location. According to several delegates, due to this many people ended up reaching MMRDA ground at Bandra-Kurla Complex, which was the venue for the inauguration of the Children’s Science Congress.
“We missed the session as we ended up reaching at the wrong venue, but luckily we got to see Dr A P J Abdul Kalam,” said a delegate.
Another delegate said, “There are no proper signage. With a lot of difficulty I managed to reach Marathi Bhasha Bhavan at Kalina campus. I kept waiting outside the auditorium on the ground floor as there was another session going on, thinking it got extended. I had followed a huge fancy sign board of Women’s Science Congress as a pointer at the auditorium. Almost 45 minutes later I saw a notice board in the extreme corner of the building about details of the event and realised it was on the second floor.”
The session on women entrepreneurs too was attended hardly by 30-40 people, of which half the people were university students, volunteers and organisers.
