Citing violation of admission rules by polytechnic colleges across the state,Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Ramnath Mote has threatened to move court against the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training (DVET) Maharashtra.
As per a Government Resolution (GR) issued on February 18,2011,students who opt for General Maths and secure overall 50 per cent marks in the Class X exam are eligible for admission to polytechnic courses. However,Mote has alleged that some of the polytechnic colleges have denied admissions to students who have studied general maths in Class X.
The state governments GR of 2011 clearly states that students who have taken up general maths and have scored 50 per cent can get admissions to polytechnic colleges. But we have received complaints from students and their parents saying they were refused admission by some colleges, said Mote.
Mote also alleged that in spite of writing to DVET several times, the authority did not budge. We informed DVET authorities about this violation, but no action was taken against these colleges. Injustice has been done to students and we will move court against this, added Mote. He claims that he has received complaints from the students across the state on the issue and he had referred these cases to the DVET regional offices. However, the students did not get any help,he said.
We support MLC Mote and we will see to it that these students get admissions in polytechnic colleges, said Anil Bornare, president of Maharashtra Rajya Shikshak Parishad.
A senior official at DVETs Mumbai office said,We are looking into the issue. It is difficult to comment before we conduct an inquiry into the matter. If we find any college flouting rules,we will initiate stringent action against them.
