Minister of State for Home Satej Patil on Tuesday directed the cyber cell of the police to monitor social networking websites in a bid to curb rave parties. This came two days after the police busted a rave party outside Mumbai, which they said was organised through one such popular site.
Patil, who conducted a janata darbar to hear public grievances at the Congress office, said the organisers of rave parties coordinate with potential guests through sites such as Facebook and Orkut. He said stern action will be taken against the organisers as well as the guests of such parties under the NDPS Act.
On Sunday,an alleged rave party was busted at a resort in Khalapur off the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and Inspector Anil Jadhav was nabbed along with 290 youths. Contraband seized from the resort included cocaine, ganja and charas, the police said.
The Raigad police on Tuesday sent the blood and urine samples of Jadhav and the 290 guests to a laboratory. It is a lengthy procedure and the results will take some time. We had lot of paper work to complete, said Namrata Patil,Deputy Superintendent of Police (Raigad).
The police said they are digging deep into Jadhavs past. We will have to check as this is a serious matter. He is an officer from a specialised department and knew what he was getting into. The drugs were lying open in the room where he was consuming alcohol. He had no business being there and will have to explain how he managed to get inside the resort and in the room booked by the organiser, Patil added.
The ANC has also started a displinary review of Jadhav. The initial review saw senior officers of the department and several informers being questioned about his antecedents. The picture that we are now getting is of a man who had an excellent performance record. But his weakness, according to many of his collegues, seems to be parties. He might have known this supplier for long and seems to have been invited to the party. A disciplinary probe is under way and Jadhav will remain suspended for at least three months, said an officer.
Initial investigations have also found that Jadhav had not informed any of his seniors or collegues about the rave party. ANC officers have to first make a station diary entry if a tip-off requires him to leave Mumbai jurisdiction limits. We checked all the ANC diaries and no such entry has been made by him. He is one of the best officers we had and is aware of the procedure. His immediate boss was also not informed, the officer added. The ANC is also expected to conduct an internal probe on the past cases handled by the tainted officer.
Another team of officers has been sent to hunt for Vicky Shah, one of the alleged organisers. Shah is believed to have been present at the resort when the raid took place. He is apparently Jadhavs informer and the Raigad police are trying to find the nature of their dealings.
