Five including two women and a minor, die in road accident in Dhule

The driver of the pickup van, who was allegedly overspeeding, suffered serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Five people, including two women and a 13-year-old girl have died, while four were left injured in a major road accident involving a pickup van and an Maruti Eeco car in the Dhule district of Maharashtra on Sunday morning.

The deceased were returning home after performing kirtan in another village. The driver of the pickup van, who was allegedly overspeeding, suffered serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
According to the officials from the Dhule police, the incident took place around 1.30 am on state highway 6 in Shindkheda Taluka in Dhule district.

The Eeco car was heading to Shindkheda while the Bolero pickup van was going in the opposite direction.

“Preliminary probe indicated that the pickup van driver was overspeeding and lost control over wheels, leading to a massive head-on collision with the Eeco near Hol village,” a police officer from state highway police has said.

According to the police, the impact of the collision was so high that both vehicles’ frontal body was massively disfigured, leading to the deaths of three people sitting in the Eeco on the spot. The two seriously injured died at the government hospital during treatment, the officer added.

The deceased have been identified as Jayesh Gulab Borse, 22, Manglabai Lotan Desle, 49, Mayuri Pitambar Khairnar
(Pardesi), 28, Vishakha Appa Mahajan, 13, and Sunil Dangal Koli, 30. All residents of Shindkheda.

Locals rushed the injured, Asha Appa Mali, Prem Sandeep Patil, Khushal Arun Chaudhari, and the driver of the pickup van, Sachin Chaudhari, 28, to Heere Hospital. The driver’s condition is critical, the police said.

Nardana police station in Dhule has registered a case against the pickup van driver on the complaint of the Eeco driver’s uncle Ravindra Borse.

“We have pressed charges of 106(1), 281, 125(A), 125(B), 324(2)(6) of Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act against the driver. For now, we have booked the driver on charges of causing death by negligence. If his blood reports confirm that he was driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol, then we will press charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against him,” said assistant inspector Nilesh More from Nardana police station.
