A Pune activist has approached Bombay High Court (SC) seeking a probe into the assault by a group of MLAs on assistant police inspector (traffic) Sachin Suryawanshi.

Hemant Patil demanded the Director General of Police or a court- appointed committee investigate the matter and submit a report. He also demanded a privilege motion moved in the assembly against certain Marathi news channels that reported the attack be dropped. He said such reporting “does not amount to breaching privilege and powers of our legislative institutions”. Patil said the MLAs involved in the attack be asked to pay a compensation to Suryawanshi.

One of the accused MLAs,Kshitij Thakur of Bahujan Vikas Aghadi, moved a breach of privilege motion against Suryawanshi last week. Thakur claimed Suryawanshi misbehaved with him even after he paid a fine for overspeeding.
