Pollution Control Board field officers nabbed by Anti-Corruption Bureau for bribery charges. (File Representational Photo) The Anti Corruption Bureau late on Tuesday laid a trap and arrested two field officers of the Pollution Control Board (PCB) for allegedly demanding and accepting bribes.
The ACB officers said that the two arrested persons had demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh of which the duo had already taken Rs 20,000, but they were caught red-handed in Andheri while accepting the second instalment of the bribe of Rs 80,000.
According to the ACB officials, the two field officers have been identified as Indrajeet Deshmukh and Sanjay Kavre while the complainant works in the human resource team of a company dealing in interior designing and painting of motor vehicles.
An officer said, “On March 23, the accused field officers approached the complainant’s company and threatened that the firm does not have a wastewater treatment plant while they have been painting vehicles outside their premises which calls for a heavy penalty.”
The complainant was further threatened that the water and light connections of the company would be disconnected and in order to avoid such a stringent action, the two field officers demanded Rs 1 lakh.
“Deshmukh and Karve even accepted the first instalment of the bribe which was Rs 20,000,” said an officer.
However, as they kept harassing the complainant for the remaining amount, he then approached the ACB office in Worli and submitted a complaint. “We verified the allegation put forth by the complainant after which a case was registered,” said an officer.
