Home minister R R Patil Wednesday ordered a probe against additional commissioner of police (south region) Krishna Prakash for allegedly misusing his power to acquire land in various parts of Maharashtra.
Patil said,The investigations will be done at the level of IG (Anti-Corruption Bureau). He was responding to a question by leader of the opposition Eknath Khadse in the Assembly and other members.
Khadse said,Krishna Prakash misused his authority to strike lands deals worth several crores in Aurangabad,Pune and Ahmednagar. In the name of maintaining law and order,Prakash has harassed innocent people in Ahmendnagar. Several complaints of him falsely implicating people and amassing wealth have come to light.
Earlier,in his written reply,Patil had denied the charges. However,he said the home department had received a complaint from an organisation Lokkarya and Lokkranti Dal on August 29,2012. Accordingly, the matter was referred to Nashik division.
However, opposition members demanded immediate action against Prakash. Khadse said,What message is the government sending if a senior police officer is amassing wealth using illegal means and harassing people. The home minister cannot remain a silent spectator.
Ravindra Waikar (Shiv Sena) said,IPS officials often get away because the government does not take the charges against them seriously.
Patil said,There is no question of sparing any official if he or she is found guilty.
