Parel terminus construction to begin in three months

Work on the Rs 90-crore Parel terminus is likely to begin in the next three months

Work on the Rs 90-crore Parel terminus is likely to begin in the next three months with the model and cost estimate awaiting a final approval from the Railway Board. This will be another terminus on suburban section to decongest the CST route.

It is dream project of Subodh Jain, member engineering and member staff Railway Board. At a press conference here on Monday,he said,“The model of Parel terminus is ready. The cost estimate for the work has to be sanctioned by the Railway Board. It should be done in about 10 days, following which work can be started.”

A suggestion to widen the upper deck at the station had been made to increase space for passengers.

Last year, the then chairman of Railway Board had given a green signal to the project. He had come to Mumbai recently with all board members to review the overall performance of Central and Western railways.

“Most of the offices have been shifted to that area,so there is a need for another terminus. As there is no place for construction near the station,a deck will be constructed above the tracks to connect Parel station to the existing foot overbridge (FOB) and also connect another under-construction FOB towards the Kalyan side,” Jain said.

There are four tracks at this station. Two slow lines have one island platform and fast lines 3 and 4 do not have a platform as fast locals do not halt here.

Under this project, there will be one more island platform for fast lines. Fast 3 and 4 lines towards CST will be merged into the proposed fast fifth and sixth lines.

Outstation trains coming from CST will run on fifth and six lines,so punctuality will not be affected.
