The Panvel-Karjat New Suburban Railway Corridor, part of the ambitious Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP-III), is making significant headway, inching closer to its completion. In terms of physical and financial execution, the project is 67 per cent complete.

Stations on Alignment: Panvel, Chikhale, Mohape, Chowk, and Karjat

Cost of Project: Rs 2,782 crore

Implementing Agency: Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC)

Significance:

– Reduces travel time significantly.
– Provides seamless connectivity across the region.
– Meets the growing commuter demand in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
– Strengthens Mumbai’s suburban railway network.
– Promotes regional economic growth.

Milestones Achieved:

Land Acquisition

– Private Land: 56.82 hectare acquired (full possession).
– Government Land: 4.4 hectare acquired.

Forest Land
– Stage I forest clearance: Obtained, with work underway in forest areas.

– Stage II clearance: Approvals secured; proposal under advanced processing.

Engineering Progress

Earthwork

– Filing in 2 million cubic metre of area completed. Breakthroughs for all three tunnels completed. Over 3,100 metre of underground excavation was achieved. Tunnel lining works are in progress.

Bridges

– 47 total bridges planned.
– 29 minor and six major bridges completed.

Road Over Bridges (ROBs)

– 4 completed, with notable progress at Mohape and Kirawali.

Pune Expressway Underpass: Girder launch, painting, and final works completed.

Station Infrastructure

– Construction progressing at all stations (Panvel, Chikhale, Mohape, Chowk, and Karjat).
– Platforms, foot overbridges (FOBs), and administrative structures are under steady development.
