The VP Road police arrested two persons on Tuesday in connection with the murder of a 45-year-old man. The accused Sahadev Yadav (50) and Vijay Yadav (32) hail from Uttar Pradesh and had killed Mohammad Ansari on Monday due to professional rivalry,the police said.
Both the victim and the accused worked as painters dealing in metal sheets. The accused beat up Ansari at the Kumbarwadi Metal Market on Monday after accusing him of poaching their customers,the police said.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Girgaum division) Anant Jadhav said the accused felt Ansari was charging less money to attract more customers. The duo felt they were losing out on their clients because of Ansari. They went to Ansari and assaulted him, said Jadhav. An eyewitness informed the police about the incident.
Our officers went to the spot and took Ansari to J J Hospital,where he was declared brought dead. Due to the assault,his spleen had ruptured, he added.
The police questioned locals in the area and got the mobile number of one of the accused. They then traced the mobile and arrested the accused on Tuesday afternoon.
An informer told us that one of the accused was staying in Khar (East) in a transit camp. Our officers went there and arrested Vijay. He confessed to the crime and led us to Sahadev. He was arrested from Andheri, said Jadhav. The accused will be produced in court on Wednesday.
