A 30-year-old man was arrested by the Shivaji Nagar police on Monday for allegedly assaulting another man with a sharp weapon and a bamboo stick.
The arrested person has been identified as Badshan Noor Isnam Shaikh,and the police are on the lookout for three of his accomplices.
Officers probing the incident said,the assault took place when the victim attempted to intervene in a tussle between two groups on Sunday evening.
The victim,Mohammad Salim Shaikh (18),was buying fruits to break his roza on Sunday near a mosque in Bainganwadi in Govandi. He heard some people arguing and went to see what was happening. In the midst of the fight,the accused and three of his accomplices began assaulting Mohammad for interfering. They beat him with a stick and also attacked him with a sharp weapon, said senior inspector Radheshyam Agarwal of Shivaji Nagar police.
Agarwal said,the police were informed of the incident and rushed teams to the spot.
The accused was nabbed immediately. His accomplices,however,managed to escape, said Agarwal. Mohammad is currently admitted in a hospital,where doctors have said his condition is improving.
