Yakub Memon, a convict in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case.
A day before his curative petition comes up for hearing in the Supreme Court — and amid reports that he may be hanged on July 30 — 1993 Mumbai serial blasts convict Yakub Memon received a visit from his cousin at the Nagpur Central Jail on Monday.
“It is true that his cousin (Usman Memon) was here to meet him,” said Jail Superintendent Yogesh Desai. However, he refused to confirm reports about other family members, including Yakub’s wife, meeting him.

Usman, who arrived at about 1 pm, spent about 90 minutes inside the jail. He was accompanied by lawyer Anil Gedam. According to sources, Usman and Gedam met Yakub separately. Sources told The Indian Express that the meeting was mainly about the curative petition that is scheduled to be heard in the Supreme Court on Tuesday. “Some documents needed to be signed by him (Yakub),” said sources, adding that Yakub looked a “bit disturbed”.
Dismissing reports that Yakub may be hanged in Pune’s Yerwada Jail, sources said the execution would take place at the Nagpur Central Jail, subject to the outcome of the court hearing.
