Nod for govt medical college in Hingoli; to admit 100 students

The state’s medical education department issued a Government Resolution (GR) on Friday granting final approval to Hingoli medical college along with a budgetary allocation of Rs 485 crore for construction.
According to the GR, the existing district hospital, which is running with its limited resources, will be transformed into the new government medical college with an attached hospital. It is expected to enhance the healthcare facility available in the district with 986 newly sanctioned posts for the new medical college.
This comes as a significant development in the state government’s overall plan of setting up medical colleges in 12 districts which do not have a single college and lack adequate healthcare facilities.
Earlier this year, the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) had submitted a proposal for the same which included names of 11 districts and identified places to set-up government medical colleges with hospitals. According to information shared by a DMER official, other identified districts include Gadchiroli, Washim, Wardha, Buldhana, Jalna, Amravati among all.
The government aims at completing the project before the beginning of the next academic year (2024-25). “The idea is to be able to include these 100 seats in medical admissions for the next academic year,” said an official from DMER.
