No water supply on Jan 6,7,8

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will cut water supply to the city on January 6,7 and 8 to replace trunk mains at the Maroshi-Vakola-Ruparel College tunnel.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will cut water supply to the city on January 6,7 and 8 to replace trunk mains at the Maroshi-Vakola-Ruparel College tunnel. Water supply to South Mumbai areas of Cuffe Parade,Colaba,Nariman Point,Backbay Reclamation,Fort and Churchgate will be cut on January 6 and 8. Areas such as Kalbadevi,C P Tank,Girgaum,Thakurdwar and Mumbai Central will have no supply on January 7.

“The work of fixing 2,400 mm butterfly valve on the 2,500 mm Bhandup-Maroshi main as part of Maroshi-Vakola-Ruparel Tunnel project will be undertaken by the BMC and water supply will be stopped for 72 hours in various parts of the city,” said Municipal Commissioner Swadheen Kshatriya. Suburban areas of Andheri east and Jogeshari east will see supply cut on January 7 while supply to Versova,Yari Road,Oshiwara,Andheri West,Vile Parle West,Santacruz East,Bandra East,MIDC will be cut on January 8.

The municipal commissioner said that by October Mumbai will get the additional 450 million litres of water daily as the Middle Vaitarna project is expected to be completed next year. “We hope to finish the Middle Vaitarna project in March 2012 and after the monsoon next year the city will get additional water,” said Kshatriya.
