Nearly a month after Praval Kaleeta (33) was arrested for his alleged role in the suicide of a 25-year-old colleague,a sessions court on Monday rejected his bail application on the ground that the case was of a serious nature. Kaleeta,vice-president at Vantage Insurance Brokers Private Limited in Andheri, was arrested on November 3.
According to the victims sister, who is a complainant in the case,Kaleeta and the victim were in a relationship and he had promised to marry her. Kaleeta, who was married, had allegedly claimed that he was unhappy and that he planned to seek a divorce from his wife.
Although the incident occurred on October 20,a complaint was registered only on November 3,after the victims family approached the Oshiwara police. According to the complainant, the victim, who hailed from Siliguri in West Bengal and held a degree in Master of Business Management from Hyderabad, worked as a manager at Vantage Insurance Brokers Private Limited in Andheri.
The complainant claimed that her sister had informed their mother, who had visited her from Siliguri on October 8,that she was in a relationship with her boss Kaleeta.
However,on October 20,the victim, who lived in a rented flat in Andheri, was found dead in a friends house in Jogeshwari.
The victim was unwell and undergoing treatment at Hiranandani Hospital. Kaleeta got her discharged against medical advice, following which she was left at a friends place. Kaleeta then went away to Guwahati. His conduct raises suspicion, said advocate Swapana Kode, who appeared for the complainant.
Kaleeta returned to Mumbai only four days after the incident and applied for anticipatory bail.
The case was registered much later. Kaleeta went ahead moving an application trying to secure his bail, Kode pointed out to the court.
