(File photo)In his first meeting since taking charge of the Maharashtra unit of the party, senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala on Thursday detailed tasks for state leaders, from organising special campaigns to reaching out to workers to organising special leadership camps eyeing upcoming general elections.
“We held a meeting of extended state executive council where directions were given to start preparing for the Lok Sabha elections. We have directed party leaders to hold meetings and interaction programmes with workers in six divisions of the state. Apart from these programmes, there will be district level, block level and panchayat level meetings,” said Chennithala. He added that special leadership camps for workers will be organised in the first week of February across the state.
When asked about the seat sharing arrangements within the Maha Vikas Aghadi, Chennithala said that a preliminary meeting of the three parties in Delhi confirmed that the elections will be fought in an alliance. “The number of seats to be contested is not a big concern for us. We have decided that we will contest united. Numbers will be finalised soon,” he added.
“The party leaders and workers are committed towards working for the Congress partys victory in the Lok Sabha elections. We will contest this election under the leadership of the Maha Vikas Aghadi. The unhappiness of the people of Maharashtra will be reflected in the election results,” said Chennithala.
Meanwhile, leaders of tripartite MVA are likely to meet in Mumbai on Friday to take forward discussions from the Delhi meeting. Top leaders of the three parties will also meet in Delhi in the coming week, where the final seat sharing arrangements will be decided.
