Industrialist Ness Wadia, who has been accused by actor Preity Zinta of molesting and verbally abusing her during an IPL match at Wankhede stadium on May 30, wrote a letter to the Marine Drive police station Wednesday, naming nine persons who he claimed were present at the time of the alleged incident.

The police may summon Wadia to record his statements within the next 48 hours, a senior officer said, adding that a single-page letter signed by Wadia was delivered by a Wadia Group representative Wednesday afternoon.

The letter states, “These persons who were present there would be able to provide independent and truthful facts about the events that took place at the stadium on that evening, with regard to the false complaint filed by Preity Zinta.”

The officer said the individuals named in the letter would be asked to record their statements. Ravindra Shisve, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone I, confirmed the letter . “We will examine its relevance in our investigation,” he said.

Preity too writes — on Facebook

Meanwhile, Zinta has uploaded a lengthy post on her Facebook page, stating she was left with no option to file an FIR against Wadia after several warnings went unheeded. The post comes a day after she met Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria in which she named six new witnesses.

The FB post reads, “Why did I file an FIR with the police ? Because after several warnings over the years, I WAS LEFT WITH NO OTHER OPTION. The whole point of this is that violent physical or aggressive behaviour should not be tolerated by rich or poor, man or woman, celebrity or not !”

Dismissing allegations that she was doing it for publicity, the post states that she and Ness Wadia had a break-up in 2009. “But now it has been six years, so this is not a personal matter,” the post reads. “Is this done for PUBLICITY ? No one wants to be involved in something like this for cheap publicity as this is more humiliating than something to be proud of…,” it states.

She also dismissed the charge that she had disrespected Wadia’s mother Maureen by taking over her seat.
