The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Sharad Pawar is planning a show of strength at the office of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday as the central agency has summoned party MLA Rohit Pawar, the grand-nephew of Sharad Pawar.

Sharad Pawar, along with Baramati Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule, will accompany Rohit to the ED office on Wednesday as hundreds of party workers will gather to extend support to Rohit. Sharad Pawar will be at the party office during the interrogation of Rohit.

“We are not planning to pressurise the agency. We have cooperated with the ED till now and will continue to do so. We have requested party workers to not crowd in front of the ED office,” said Rohit. The NCP MLA has been summoned in relation with the Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank (MSCB) scam.

The NCP on Tuesday alleged that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been using central agencies to make allegations and launch probes against the opposition leaders. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi had alleged Rs 70,000 crore irrigation corruption against Ajit Pawar. But all inquiries related to this have been stopped the moment he joined hands with the BJP,” said NCP spokesperson Vikas Lawande.

He said that the only work BJP indulged right now is to threaten the opposition leaders with central agencies and bring them within their party. “Their only job is to finish off the opposition,” he said.

Rohit Pawar, too, pointed out that the ongoing probe of the ED also involves sugar mills linked to Ajit Pawar. “The scam in which I am being called involves 60-70 other sugar mills, including those governed by deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. The previous action involves leaders of different political parties. In 2021, Ajit Pawar himself had told the media that there are 64 sugar mills involved. I want to assure all, including Ajit Pawar, that I will not only come out clean from this inquiry but also prove innocence of others named as well,” Rohit said.
