Nayanta University gets cabinet nod, to start functioning in Pune from August
As its initial offerings, Nayanta University will offer undergraduate degrees in arts and sciences and a Masters in public policy.

Nayanta University, a private university, is all set to start functioning from the next academic year (2025-26) after obtaining Maharashtra cabinet approval on Thursday. Located in Pune, this private university helmed by many leading industrialists and academics, assures a great level of industry integration.
After obtaining a letter of intent and approval from the Government of Maharashtra under the Maharashtra Private Universities Act, this new university proposes to admit its first batch of students in August 2025. As its initial offerings, Nayanta University will offer undergraduate degrees in arts and sciences and a Masters in public policy.
Dr Naushad Forbes, a founder of the project said: “We are grateful to the Maharashtra government and especially the leadership for their support and guidance throughout the initial university formation process. Nayanta will be an inclusive, holistic university with a high degree of industry integration. We believe Nayanta will further strengthen the educational ecosystem in Pune, Maharashtra, India and over time, overseas.”
Dr Ranjan Banerjee, Professor and CEO, Nayanta Education Foundation said: “Nayanta has already signed an MoU with the Confederation of Indian Industries. This partnership will help us provide internships to every Nayanta student in the corporate, government and social sectors. Corporate partnerships will also ensure strong placement outcomes right from the first batch.”
Apart from Nayanta University, the state cabinet approved two other private universities on Thursday – Indira University in Pune and state’s first vertical university proposal by the Atharva Education Trust in Mumbai.
