A 50-year-old man arrested in connection with the murder of a businessman in 1986,and who had jumped bail in 1987,was on Friday arrested by the Anti-Robbery and Dacoity Cell of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch on Friday evening,police said.
Crime Branch officers said Mohammad Nusrat Qureshi was wanted for the murder of Kurla based businessman Abdul Razzak Chikna in 1986.
A case was then registered at Tilak Nagar police station. The following year,Qureshi was arrested by the Crime Branch and produced in court, said a Crime Branch officer.
The officer said Qureshi,who was was let off on bail escaped. A few months after his arrest,he jumped bail. Warrants were issued against him by a sessions court in 1995 and 2005. In 2010,a non-bailable warrant was issued against Qureshi, said the officer.
Crime Branch officers said the police received information that Qureshi was living in Uttar Pradeshs Bareilly area.
We were told he was living in Bareilly and would arirve in Mumbai on Friday. We had his description and nabbed him when he arrived, said the officer. Qureshi was handed over to the local police,who will produce him in court.
