Singer Dolly Parton once claimed that it costs a lot of money to look cheap. One of the citys iconic hotels (Taj Mahal Palace) decided to spend a substantial amount on promoting the 40th anniversary of one of its most well known restaurants by going cheap. The plan was to sell all of its well-known dishes on Saturday at a dirt-cheap price of Rs 40,cheaper than your next door Udipi joint. What it did not bargain for was the rush that the move generated.Tourists and families who would only dream of viewing the iconic hotel from outside made a beeline. The hotel staff had a tough time managing the crowd, which kept increasing owing to word of mouth publicity. The hotel, meanwhile, tried its best to ensure that its regular clientele was not inconvenienced with the gawking masses being moved out through a separate entrance.
Sound,no fury
Mayor Sunil Prabhu on Saturday visited parents of the day-old baby who was stolen from Wadia Maternity Hospital,Parel. Prabhu asserted that the BMC would issue a showcause notice to the maternity home and investigate security lapses. The Mayor hinted that the hospital may have misappropriated funds and said the land lease for the hospital would be cancelled. However, the bold statements may remain on paper with the BMC not having any powers to act against the hospital. Only the state government can take action. All the BMC can do is ask the hospital to instal biometric attendance machines, the civic body’s health committee chairperson Geeta Gawli said on Monday.
Time for projects
The BMC had worn a deserted look over the past several weeks with corporators who are otherwise busy chatting up contractors and developers eager to push their projects sitting idle. Contractors and developers have been delaying knocking at the BMC doors for project approvals during shradh, considered inauspicious by Hindus. The end of shradh month has brought back the business-like look at the civic headquarters.
