The police on Wednesday booked Transport Minister Diwakar Raote’s son Unmesh (38) after he allegedly misbehaved with a traffic police constable during a campaign against drunk driving in the early hours of Wednesday.

Unmesh was booked under the Bombay Police Act.

According to traffic police officials, Unmesh allegedly behaved “indecently” when a traffic constable asked him to show his licence after his car was stopped at a checkpoint near Hinduja Hospital in Mahim. He was subsequently fined Rs 1,200 and allowed to leave.

Raote held a press conference regarding the incident Wednesday evening and said his son was not driving the car, but was in the front passenger seat. He added that the constable had asked for his son’s licence when he was not even driving, which led to a minor verbal altercation between Unmesh and the constable.
