Platform upgrades underway at Thane, CSMT stations

According to Central Railway, work on 65 out of 75 points, 51 out of 120 tracks, and 1 out of 60 signals were completed till Saturday.

An extensive work to widen platforms 5 and 6 at Thane railway station commenced on Friday which is likely to continue until Sunday afternoon. On Saturday, officials reported that an reinforcement concrete cement (RCC) box was successfully placed at Platform 5. The mobilization of machinery and material has been swift, with 350 labourers including officers and supervisors working round-the-clock to ensure timely completion.

Simultaneously, a 36-hour special block is underway at CSMT station for non-interlocking work related to the extension of platforms 10 and 11. This upgrade includes the implementation of an intelligent, efficient and integrated electronic interlocking signalling system.

According to Central Railway, work on 65 out of 75 points, 51 out of 120 tracks, and 1 out of 60 signals were completed till Saturday. Over 250 highly skilled staff is working at CSMT to expedite the project.

Despite the challenges posed by scorching heat, the team is dedicated to complete these crucial upgrades before the onset of the monsoon season. “We prioritize the needs and comfort of our passengers,” said a Central Railway official.
