Mumbai: Rlys removes over 15,000 illegal posters from local train coaches in last 3 months
In the last three months, more than 15,000 posters were removed from different trains when the coaches arrived at the yard for regular maintenance, of which 4,500 posters were removed in October alone.

Western Railway (WR) officials have their hands full as they have been trying to remove illegal posters from inside the coaches of local trains. In the last three months, more than 15,000 posters were removed from different trains when the coaches arrived at the yard for regular maintenance, of which 4,500 posters were removed in October alone.
Each Electrical Multiple Unit (EMU) rake is taken to the shed after regular operations, where it undergoes regular maintenance. While the cleaning of one rake normally takes three to four hours, the staff ends up spending an extra hour scraping posters off walls of the coaches.
Posters ranging from those offering personal loans to those featuring various kinds of babas to those with helpline numbers on them have been found inside the coaches.
A WR official said, “The rakes are newly procured and the glue used for these posters leaves a stain even after they are removed.”
The RPF is making an effort to nab culprits, based on footage from CCTV cameras placed inside the coaches. SR Gandhi, senior divisional security commissioner of the WR, said, “We have scanned the footage and have nabbed several offenders.”
According to Gandhi, many of these culprits go unnoticed as they enter as regular commuters. “This activity is mostly done during the early morning trains which depart from Vasai, Virar and Dahanu and have few passengers,” Gandhi said.
