A 64-year-old woman from Andheri West has been hospitalised with suspected Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) symptoms, a rare neurological disorder that has affected several districts in Maharashtra, including Pune. The woman was admitted to Seven Hills Hospital, a civic-run facility, on February 5 after experiencing fever, diarrhoea and mobility issues, followed by paralysis. According to hospital sources, initial tests revealed white spots in her brain, prompting urgent treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU). She has been placed on plasma exchange therapy. While there is speculation that this may be the first GBS case in Mumbai, civic health officials clarified that the city has reported sporadic cases in the past. Health officials confirmed the suspected case in Mumbai has no direct link to the outbreak in Pune. The patient had no travel history to affected areas, according to Dr Daksha Shah, Executive Health Officer, BMC.
