Mumbai News Live Updates, October 7, 2024: The 12.44-km stretch between Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and Aarey of the much-awaited Mumbai Metro Line 3, the city’s first underground metro, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, will be open for the public on Monday. The stretch will allow commuters to travel between this stretch in just 30 minutes, with trains running every 6.5 minutes during peak time. With 96 trips daily, the services will operate from 6:30 am to 10:30 pm on weekdays and, on weekends, from 8:30 am onwards. The minimum fare will be Rs 10 and maximum will be Rs 50 between Aarey and BKC for one way trip.

Meanwhile, fire broke out on the fourth floor of a 12-storey residential building at Jogeshwari in the western suburbs of Maharashtra. The blaze erupted around 7:45 am from the Air Conditioning (AC) unit inside an apartment. It was extinguished around 8:15 am by the Mumbai Fire Brigade. No injuries were reported.

There’s also a possibility of light rain or drizzle in the city and the suburbs. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 35 and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Bombay HC grants anticipatory bail to Shinde Sena leader booked for ‘offensive’ remarks against journalist covering Badlapur case

The Bombay High Court on Monday granted anticipatory bail to Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena leader Waman Mhatre in connection with an alleged offensive remark he made against a journalist reporting on the Badlapur sexual abuse case.

While pronouncing the verdict, a single-judge bench of Justice Sandeep V Marne said, “I have allowed the application and granted anticipatory bail to the applicant.”

Mhatre was booked on August 22 under provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and offences punishable under sections 74 (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

T-shaped flyover to decongest Mith Chowki partially opens; BJP-Congress workers jostle for credit at the event

In a relief to Malad residents, the T-shaped flyover, which aims to relieve traffic at the congested Mith Chowki, was partially opened for vehicular traffic on Sunday.

Nearly two years since the construction commenced, the east-west arm of the bridge was inaugurated by Union Minister and Mumbai North MP Piyush Goyal on Sunday.

Congress MLA from Malad Aslam Sheikh, BJP MLA Yogesh Sagar as well as senior officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), including commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, were present.

Mumbai News Live Updates: 22 booked for duping Thane bank of Rs 39 lakh by mortgaging fake jewellery

Police have registered a case against 22 persons for allegedly cheating a private cooperative bank in Maharashtra's Thane district of Rs 39.25 lakh by mortaging fake jewellery, an official said on Sunday.

The accused obtained loans from the bank's branch in Mumbra area between November 2020 and November 2021 by mortgaging jewellery. Some of accused took multiple loans.

Later, during the audit and inspection, it came to light the jewellery mortgaged was not genuine, the official from Mumbra police station said.

Based on the complaint by a bank official, a case was registered on Thursday against the 22 persons under Indian Penal Code sections 420 (cheating), 409 (criminal breach of trust) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), he said.

Mumbai News Live Updates: 50 college students hospitalised after having dinner at hostel in Latur

Meanwhile, nearly 50 female students of a government college were hospitalised for suspected food poisoning after having dinner at their hostel in Latur city, officials said on Sunday.

The hostel, part of the Puranmal Lahoti Government Polytechnic, has 324 female students.

At around 7 pm on Saturday, the students had dinner, consisting of rice, chapattis, 'okra' curry and lentil soup, the officials said.

By 8.30 pm, several of them felt nauseous and some of the students started vomiting, they said.

Upon receiving the information, the college principal rushed to the spot and informed Dr Uday Mohite, dean of the Vilasrao Deshmukh Government Medical College and Hospital in Latur.

The affected students were immediately taken to the hospital in ambulances.

The victims have been identified as Paris Gupta (F/7), Narendra Gupta (M,10), Manju Prem Gupta (F,30), Prem Gupta (M,30) and Anita Gupta (F,30). All the victims were taken to the civic-run Rajawadi Hospital upon rescue where they were declared ‘brought dead’.

NCP member from Ajit Pawar faction killed in Mumbai’s Byculla

A group of unidentified men allegedly hacked to death a member of the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar) in the Byculla area of Mumbai on Saturday morning, the police said.

The deceased Sachin Kurmi, alias Munna, 45, was the Byculla Vidhan Sabha taluka president of the NCP.

According to the police, Kurmi was attacked with a sharp weapon on the chest, neck, hands, and stomach around 1 am on Anant Pawar Road.

Mumbai police transfers over 100 officers who completed 3 years in service

In line with the Election Commission's order, Mumbai police has transferred over 100 officers outside the city who had completed three years in city police prior to the upcoming state elections.
