Five persons, including a minor girl, were apprehended on Monday for allegedly intruding into the house of a 70-year-old woman, tying her hands and legs and throwing chilli powder on her face before robbing her of gold ornaments worth Rs 2.14 lakh. According to police, the complainant Nirmala Koli, a homemaker who stays with her family in Dharavi, was alone at home on Sunday, when at around 4.15pm, the accused forcefully entered her house. “They tied her hands and feet with a handkerchief, gagged her, threw chilli powder on her eyes and face after which they threatened to kill her with a knife.The accused even physically assaulted her and later stole gold jewellery from her house,” said an officer. The accused also threatened her against lodging a police complaint. However, soon after the incident, she informed her family members, following which a case was filed with Dharavi police. “With the help of CCTV footage and human intelligence, we identified four persons and a minor girl, following which they were traced and nabbed. We have learnt that three more are involved and we are trying to nab them,” said an officer. Police said that they committed the crime after taking cues from a television serial.
