Steel span installed above Ghodbunder Road for Metro Line 4; MMRDA says 84 % work done
With this installation, all the special steel spans from Majiwada to Kasarvadavli have been completed.

Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Friday night installed a 48-metre-long steel span at Kapurbawadi Junction on Metro Line 4, linking Wadala and Kasarvadavli.
According to officials, the important section was laid over the congested Ghodbunder Road in two nights, without affecting traffic movement.
The new span is at the elevated portion of the corridor and was intended to span a complicated junction bordered by existing flyovers.
In order to have minimal interference, the contractors deployed 700-ton and 550-ton cranes with backup cranes, trailers and a safety team of more than 100 engineers and labourers.
The structure comprises four huge steel girders that are 14 metres high and weigh 325 tonnes.
The officials attributed the smooth completion of this high precision job to the coordination among different government agencies.
“We thank all the government authorities and agencies involved for their invaluable guidance and support, which played a crucial role in the successful and safe completion of this challenging work,” an MMRDA official said.
With this installation, all the special steel spans from Majiwada to Kasarvadavli have been completed.
Metro Line 4, extending more than 32.32 kilometres and having 32 stations, is intended to improve east-west connectivity in Mumbai.
It will connect Wadala in the southern-central area of the city with Kasarvadavli in Thane, passing through important points like Chembur, Ghatkopar, Mulund, and Thane.
MMRDA said that 84.5 per cent of the building work on this line has been done. The installation of steel span maintains the timeline for commissioning of the corridor under Phase 1.
Upon completion, the corridor would be able to bring down travel time between the eastern suburbs and Thane tremendously.
