Mumbai: College student dies in an accident on coastal road

A 19-year-old college student died in an accident on Coastal Road on Saturday night. The deceased youngster’s friend, who was driving the vehicle, has also been injured in the accident and is undergoing treatment.
According to the Tardeo police, the deceased woman has been identified as Gargi Chate. Originally from Ganagapur, Nashik, Chate was staying in Dadar and studying finance in a south Mumbai college.
On Saturday Gargi and her friend Sanyam Sankala, 22 were travelling south in Sankala’s Swift Dzire car.
“At a curve on the coastal road at Haji Ali area, Sankala lost control over the vehicle due to speed and dashed into the divider and overturned,” said a police officer.
Gargi suffered multiple injuries including one to the head. Sankala too suffered serious injuries. Both were rushed to the Breach candy hospital by locals.
At the hospital, doctors declared Gargi dead. Sankala is undergoing treatment and is in the ICU.
Police have registered a case of rash and negligent driving against Sankala and are further investigating the matter.
In another fatal accident, a 34-year-old pedestrian Rashid Sultan Shaikh died after a speeding biker dashed him in front of Killa court on Mahanagar Palika road on Saturday night. Police have booked the biker Dhaval Ganesh, 30 on charges of causing death by negligence.
