The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has decided to hire a full-time expert to handle the environmental aspects of all its projects.
The corporation plans to hire an environmental advisor, preferably with a doctorate in environmental engineering and who has a minimum experience of ten years in dealing with environmental aspects of either public or private infrastructure projects. We had an environmental engineer on deputation from Central government, but now we are looking for a full-time advisor, a senior MSRDC engineer said.
The environmental advisor will be in charge of environmental assessments of all infrastructure development projects of the agency, besides dealing with the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority, the National Institute of Oceanography, expert committees on environment impact assessments, public hearings on environments and any studies associated with the sea coast or forests.
The officer on deputation has been sick for the past few months. We need a full-time advisor to coordinate with various agencies given the importance of these issues in infrastructure projects, the engineer said.
The corporation is planning environmentaly sensitive projects such as the Passenger Water Transport system, the Western Freeway sea link and the Versova-Bandra sea link.
