Mild tremors were felt across Mumbai and several other parts of Maharashtra on Saturday following a moderate earthquake in Koyna region,200 kilometres south of Mumbai.
Dr R V Sharma,director of India Meteorological Departments (IMD) western region,confirmed that an earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale had occurred in the region. It was a moderate earthquake with its epicenter in Koyna dam region in Satara district, Sharma said. The quake occurred at 6:36 pm and lasted 15 seconds.
