“Since the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct, authorities have also taken action against 13,141 people and seized 45,755 weapons from them…Of the Rs 23 crore recovered from different parts of the state since March 1, the highest amount of cash (Rs 3.60 crore) have been recovered from Mumbai suburban, followed by Rs 2.08 crore from Mumbai city,” said state Chief Electoral Officer S. Chockalingam while addressing a press conference in Mumbai on Saturday.
S. Chockalingam said Maharashtra has a total of 9.21 crore registered voters and 1,84,841 new voters have been added to the list between March 17 and 22.

He said 10 nominations have been filed so far for the first phase of polling in five constituencies of Vidarbha region since March 20.
Chockalingam also said in order to control the circulation of false information and rumours on social media, authorities have set up a media monitoring control room at the office level of the Chief Electoral Officer of Maharashtra.
“A daily report on fake news is being submitted to the Election Commission of India by the Media Monitoring and Control Room. A media monitoring and control room has also been set up at the district level under the leadership of the District Collector and the district election officer,” said Chockalingam.
