MNS MLA Ram Kadam was arrested Tuesday for allegedly attacking a BMC engineer in Ghatkopar four months ago and in connection with two other pending cases.
The engineer,Mahesh Phad, was allegedly assaulted in his office on January 17,minutes after he returned from Bhatwadi in Ghatkopar where he had gone to oversee demolition of an illegal structure.
Phad claimed receiving threat calls from Kadam while the demolition was under way and that the assault was carried out at his behest.
Kadam was subsequently booked but a police probe began three months later, after he was arrested by the crime branch with MLA Kshitij Thakur for allegedly beating up assistant inspector Sachin Suryavanshi at Vidhan Bhavan in March.
After a review,we realised we had enough evidence to arrest Kadam. We obtained concrete evidence linking him to the (Phad) case, said additional commissioner of police Quaiser Khaleed, east region.
Kadam was brought to Pant Nagar Police Station for questioning Tuesday afternoon and subsequently arrested. The other reasons for the arrest are an alleged assault on a rationing officer and unlawful assembly last year.
The court released Kadam on a personal bond of Rs 35,000 in the Phad assault case and bonds of Rs 5,000 each in the other cases.
A Pant Nagar police officer said they sought Kadams custody to record his voice sample to ascertain if he issued Phad threats but the defence counsel said call data records could establish this.
