MMRDA ready with action plan for uninterrupted Metro services, infra works during monsoon

To prevent flooding, dewatering pumps are being deployed, pothole repair vehicles are mobilised and debris has also been removed from construction sites. The damaged drains and dividers are being reconstructed and incomplete construction work is being either completed or safely barricaded. The safety measures also include measures against winds and fogging to prevent mosquito breeding at casting yards.

According to MMRDA officials, for the 35-km long Metro Lines 2A and 7, MMRDA has completed a round of monsoon proofing. This includes testing and sealing all 34 metro trains for water leakage, inspecting lightening arrestors, DG sets, UPS and earthing systems across all 30 stations and Charkop depot where there are possibilities of mishaps.

MMRDA has also installed wind velocity anemometers, a device used to measure the speed of winds, for determining the extend of weather at ten stations. Moreover, big electrical equipment has undergone maintenance to prevent from accidents during monsoon.

“To ensure commuter safety at each Metro station, 64 additional CCTV cameras installed, cleaning of viaducts, roof gutters and drain lines has been done apart from assurance of uninterrupted services through increased train frequency during flooding. A special coach is also being kept on standby to assist the BMC Disaster Management team in case of emergencies,” an MMRDA official said.
