Sathe will be the senior-most legal authority representing the state in court proceedings.
The CM announced that the resignation of outgoing AG Birendra Saraf was accepted by the state cabinet, noting his commendable performance.
“The state cabinet approved the appointment of Shri Milind Sathe as the new Advocate General of the state. Shri Milind Sathe has handled numerous cases in the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court. On behalf of the
state government, he has worked on many cases as a senior advocate,” the CM said in a post on X.
Saraf had announced that he was stepping down as the AG in September after holding the post for three years, citing personal reasons. He had been requested by the state to continue on the post till the new appointment.
Sathe had led the Bombay Bar Association as its president between 2014-2021. He joined the bar in 1982.
He has appeared as a senior advocate–designated in 2005–in many cases in High Court and the Supreme Court. He has also represented the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation as special counsel in multiple cases including the ongoing Public Interest Litigation on air pollution.
Sathe will be the AG from Monday.
