The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has recently uploaded 15 crore official documents for public viewing on its website as part of a commitment made in April this year.

The project, launched in line with the directive of MHADA Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Sanjeev Jaiswal, seeks to simplify access to official records without requiring citizens to make separate Right to Information (RTI) applications. The documents uploaded to the portal are office orders, tenders, internal approvals, circulars, and departmental correspondence. Records deemed sensitive, like those involving the lottery system, have been excluded.

Department-wise documents are provided in the Citizen Corner of the MHADA website. The citizen has to register on the basis of primary details such as mobile number and verification through Aadhaar or Permanent Account Number (PAN). Following one-time password-based verification, access to the document database is given to the users.

This system, according to MHADA, functions with no human intervention to access the documents. Each session is recorded, and users need to specify the purpose for accessing a specific record. Downloading and taking snapshots of the files is prohibited. All accessed content is digitally signed and secured through Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption.

The navigation of the portal, too, has been redesigned to make searching and accessing information more convenient. The online service has been duly notified under the Right to Public Services Act. MHADA informed that the step has been taken on the directions of the Maharashtra government to enhance institutional transparency and citizens’ participation.

The files encompass records from all the regional boards of MHADA and are likely to benefit researchers, applicants, stakeholders, and the public at large looking for clarity on housing schemes, administrative orders, and departmental actions.

Through this upgrade, MHADA has become one of the few public authorities in the state to introduce large-scale digitised document access as per RTI provisions.
