The incident took place at Goraksha Dham building in Kuloop Wadi area of Borivali (East)

A 46-year-old woman suffering from a mental illness allegedly strangled her 11-year-old daughter to death and later also tried to end her life by slitting her wrist in Borivali (East) on Thursday night.
The incident took place at Goraksha Dham building in Kuloop Wadi area of Borivali (East). The accused woman, Rekha Raj Solanki, allegedly killed her 11-year-old daughter Ruhani Solanki by strangulating her with a dupatta. After that, she tried to commit suicide by slitting her wrist, the police said.
The girl was immediately rushed to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital in Kandivali but was declared dead by the doctor. Rekha Solanki is also undergoing treatment at the same hospital. Her husband Raj Solanki, 36, the complainant in the case, has informed the police that Rekha’s mental condition is not good.
Preliminary probe has revealed that Rekha would avoid having her medicines meant for treatment of her mental illness, and because of this she would often get angry and violent. On Thursday, she became highly violent, an officer said.
In the past she had also attacked her husband, but he refrained from filing any complaint. The couple has a universal salon and lives in the Borivali apartment on rent basis.
A case of murder has been registered against Rekha on the complaint of her husband Raj. Police will decide on future course of action once Rekha recovers fully at the hospital. The Kasturba Sub police are investigating the matter.
