‘MCC violation’: Complaint filed with ECI against Shinde

The complaint highlights a critical guideline issued by the Election Commission, which prohibits political leaders and candidates from entering constituencies outside their own within 48 hours of polling.

An official complaint was filed with the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday against Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde over alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct.

The controversy began when the CM made an unscheduled visit to Chandivali constituency to campaign for Shiv Sena candidate Dilip Lande, while polling was underway. His actions — organising a roadshow and urging people to vote — drew sharp criticism from the Opposition.

Ganesh Chavan, the chief polling agent of MVA candidate Naseem Khan from the Congress, lodged an official complaint with the ECI, demanding an FIR be registered against Shinde and Dilip Lande under Section 171 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act.

The complaint highlights a critical guideline issued by the Election Commission, which prohibits political leaders and candidates from entering constituencies outside their own within 48 hours of polling. Despite these regulations, it is alleged that Chief Minister Shinde conducted a roadshow from Kajupada Ghas Compound to St Jude High School around 3 pm, an area dotted with multiple polling stations.

“This act raises serious doubts about the integrity of the election process in Chandivali. The Election Commission must take immediate and strict action to ensure fairness,” the Congress said in a statement.
